2014 Golden Globes Best and Worst Dressed
The red carpet at this year’s Golden Globes featured a lot of trends – red dresses, Tom Ford for men and baby bumps as accessories – but which actresses nailed their looks and who needs to redeem themselves? Check out my picks below:
Is anyone else beginning to lose hope that Lena Dunham will ever get it right? This is the second time in the past few months she’s picked a pretty dress that would look great on someone else. If Dunham learns nothing else in 2014 I hope she learns that brights don’t work well with her pasty skin and that if she insists on ignoring workouts and vegetables then she’s GOT to cover those arms!!
So this time around Paula Patton didn’t seem high but she sure dressed like she was. While her hair and makeup was on point, Patton blurred the lines between chic and shitty with the oversized ruffle cascading all over her left side. Had she just gotten rid of the ruffle she might’ve been on the best dressed list but there’s nothing she could do to make the ruffle “happen”.
Is Julia Roberts just tired of getting dressed for the awards? This is even more upsetting than Beyonce’s pants number at the Grammys – why do u show up to the Golden Globes looking like you just came from an interview for a substitute teacher position? Shame on you Julia! You’re a pretty woman and should know better.
While it’s great Jennifer Lawrence took a few risks, I hope this experience is a lesson learner for the young actress. Where do we begin? How ’bout with the double banding on the dress? She could’ve done without the second one, it’s awkward and unnecessary. Then there’s her makeup. That attempt at a deep red lip? Fail! It’s way too mature for her, not in a good way, especially when coupled with that hair. Her green earrings do work well with the lip but the look all together still isn’t right for her – maybe Zoe Saldana could’ve pulled off this look?
… and the bombshells
Yes Emilia Clarke! The Game of Thrones actress rocked this beaded Proenza Schouler number with peplum inspired wave ruffle at the hip and a safe slit. She got it right. Not much else to say.
Julia Louis-Dreyfus has been nailing it lately and last night was another one for the books. The Veep star donned a red dress by Narciso Rodriguez that hugged her body in all the right places but still left her room to breathing. Her understated makeup and messy ponytail only force us to pay more attention to the dress. Brava!
You’ve probably never heard of Margot Robbie – she plays Leonardo DiCaprio’s wife in Wolf of Wall Street -but you’ll surely remember her now. The newcomer held her own amongst the usual red carpet bombshells in this white Gucci number. Normally a white dress speaks for itself without too many accessories but the emerald and silver embellishing took Robbie’s gown to the next level!
No shocker here – Sofia Vergara owned the red carpet once again! She may not have won Best Supporting Actress but her Lorraine Schwartz necklace did win accessory of the night. Sofia kept the look otherwise simple in a black Zac Posen gown with mucho volume below the waist.
While almost every red carpet look last night was worth talking about, the winner of the evening was 12 Years A Slave‘s Lupita Nyong’o. The rising starlet changed the game in a red Ralph Lauren dress with a cape, yes, a CAPE! As if the dress itself didn’t makes us drop our jaws, Lupita debuted a cropped cut with the side shaved off à la Cassie. Could she have started a new cropped cut trend? Don’t be surprised if this look took off!! You flawless. Lupita – tell ’em!
Of course there were many other noteworthy looks from last night. Zoe Saldana wore a look only she could attempt and Kerry Washing debuted her baby bump. Check the Living Fiesta Fanpage for even more red carpet photos.
