Lauryn Hill, Lenny Kravitz, Grace Jones and more to play AFROPUNK 2015
AFROPUNK’s annual festival has returned to New York City and today they announced their official lineup! This year’s performers include Lauryn Hill, Lenny Kravitz, Grace Jones, Kelis, Danny Brown and more!
AFROPUNK begin as a grassroots organization targeting African-Americans who, as a minority in the genre, felt left of punk culture. The movement has grown increasingly popular in recent years, with last year’s festival reaching 60,000 attendees. AFROPUNK has always been free but this year you’ll need to buy tickets to attend the two-day festival, but there IS a way to work around the entrance fee.
Guests can purchase tickets for as low as $44 for a one-day pass, or as much as $240 for a VIP weekend pass. A VIP Pass grants expedited admission, access to a VIP viewing area for the Green and Red Stages, catered eats by Marcus Saumelsson’s Street Bird and Hill Country BBQ, exclusive gifts, a photo booth, and an invitation to exclusive AFROPUNK AFTER DARK events. One day VIP Passes and weekend General Admission passes are also available.
For people who can’t afford $40 or more on a ticket, AFROPUNK has created an earned ticket program called AFROPUNK Army. Youth can participate in low barrier volunteer activities and projects such as landscaping, packing supplies and advocacy via social promotion in exchange for a free ticket.
AFROPUNK Fest 2015 will be held in Brooklyn’s Commodore Barry Park August 22nd and 23rd. Can’t make it to NYC that weekend? They’re bringing the show to Atlanta’s Central Park October 3rd and 4th.
Will you check out the AFROPUNK festival this summer or is the ticket price just too much for you?
