AMAs 2014 Red Carpet Hits and Misses
ABC aired the 2014 AMAs last night and to be honest, the red carpet was more eventful than the award show itself. There was A LOT of black and a few more misses than necessary. Who kept it together and who shoulda kept theirselves at home? Check out the pics below:
Meghan Trainor should’ve tried harder. How do you make a song that’s all about loving your body and show up to an award show dressed so conservatively? Her black dress is cute but for her to be “All About That Boss” and cover up in her day after Thanksgiving dress is a little weird. Especially when she proceeded to ask Fergie for exercise advice.
But it’s understandable why Meghan Trainor wanted Fergie‘s exercise regimen – the “LA Love”
rapper singer showed off her amazing legs in a black Halston gown and Versus sandals. The small gold belt and matching straps on her shoes took the otherwise plain black dress from simple to chic.
Rita Ora did the most in a yellow Zac Posen gown. I appreciate that she’s added some color to the red carpet but this dress was too fancy for the AMAs. Rita should have worn something more simple and reserved the fancy gown for the Grammys.
For someone who didn’t want to be there Nicki Minaj sure didn’t show it in her outfit. Her Alexander Wang Spring 2015 dress is cute, somewhat fancy and fun – perfect for the occasion. Both her legs and her arms are exposed as well as side cutouts but the mock turtleneck and close toed shoes helped keep Nicki from being overexposed. Red and grey patterns on the neck and sides keep this from being just another black dress on the red carpet.
Personality Frankie J. Grande may have been trying to run away from being labeled “Ariana Grande’s brother” in this – can we call it an ensemble? Instead of opting for the standard shirt, slacks and tie like most men do on the red carpet, Frankie painted his on. I guess he gets an A for effort? It would’ve been cute if he wore actual clothes.
First of all, why is Star Jones even here? She’s already a fish out of water and then she shows up looking like a hooker who married someone with just enough money for her to quit her lifestyle. This dress is awkwardly short – even the clashing sweater is longer than the dress itself. How dare she throw on sheer tights as though a longer hem line wouldn’t solve whatever cold she’s experiencing in LA. Also, what’s the deal with her junior high sized purse?
Zendaya took a fashion risk in a Georgine gold two piece suit. I’m openly not a huge fan of the pajamas as clothes trend look but Zendaya pulled this off so well I HAVE to respect it. As she told Giuliana Rancic she’s 18 with a fast metabolism so she might as well experiment and show it off while she’s still got it!
I want great things for Jessie J but I’m beginning to doubt if she wants them for herself. The pantsuit look can be sexy but this isn’t it. She needs a plunging neckline, fierce makeup or just anything else that would make her stand out. Right now she just looks like she’s Luke James publicist. Jessie is still riding the “Bang Bang” wave and I feel like people will finally start listening to her if she goes with the momentum and takes every opportunity – red carpets included – to remind us how amazing she is.
Jordin Sparks donned a rose gold halter neck Halston dress and even though she looks good I want more. Its cute but not necessarily memorable. Fresh off her break up with Jason DeRulo I’d prefer to see her make better efforts to slay and remind him of what he used to have.
She’ll always be the best to ever do it but J.Lo needs to be careful before she ventures into Mariah Carey territory. At 45 Jennifer Lopez has a body any 21 year old would kill for, but in this barely there blush Reem Acra dress it seems like she’s trying too hard to make sure we don’t forget. This would’ve been just as sexy, if not more, in black, green or any other not no naked color.
What was your favorite look of the night?
