BET Awards 2014 Red Carpet: Who Got it Right?

The 2014 BET Awards aired last night and while the show itself went well, the red carpet definitely had room for improvement. Check out some of the best, and worst dressed of the night:

BET-Awards-2014-Red-Carpet-Adrienne-BailonAdrienne Bailon was easily last year’s best dressed, and it looks like she came to reclaim the title for a second year in a row. In a custom Michael Costello gown, easy bun and red lip it’s clear Adrienne embraced, and mastered, the “less is more” look.

White was the theme of the night, and while Ashanti was on point with the color trend, she messed up trying to incorporate all the other trends. Ashanti has overexposed/sloppy cleavage, side cut-outs, lace and a front-slit! As if that weren’t enough, her hair seems to be inspired by Beyonce’s Grammy look – but I can’t say it works for her here. If she had a darker hair color and said no to the lace and exposed cleavage this could’ve been a good look for the singer.

We gotta give Keke Palmer points for trying; this is definitely a fashion risk, but she could have done better with this look. Gold is a great complement for the on-trend white but there’s far too much gold in this dress. She looks like a more fashionable cast member of 300. Maybe if the skirt portion where white instead of all gold this look would’ve been good.

Regardless of how you feel about the Real Housewives of Atlanta star, there’s no denying Kenya Moore knows how to look good. Kenya’s simple hair and dramatic lashes work well with her peach-hued Victoria Beckham dress.

BET-Awards-2014-Red-Carpet-Jennifer-FreemanSure, Jennifer Freeman hasn’t gotten much work since My Wife and Kids, but surely she can afford something better than a dress from Instagram. This look might be okay for a night out at your neighborhood lounge, but let’s step things up a bit for an awards show, why don’t we? It seems like other starlets were trying too hard to have a fashion moment, but Jennifer didn’t trying hard enough.

Not sure what Paris Hilton was doing at the BET Awards – possibly just supporting her Young Money label mates – but she sure did look great in this white Michael Costello gown. Take note Ashanti, this is how you wear cut-outs!

BET-Awards-2014-Red-Carpet-Zendaya-ColemanPoor Zendaya. Hours before the award show we found out that Zendaya would no longer be starring the Aaliyah biopic set to air on Lifetime later this year. Maybe she was too distraught to get dressed, and put on whatever scraps she had lying around. And a baseball cap. Nothing about this look is good, except the makeup and bandeau top. She’s young – there will be more movie roles and more opportunities to redeem herself on future red carpets.

BET-Awards-2014-Red-Carpet-Gabrielle-UnionThink Like a Man Too‘s Gabrielle Union must have given up as well. This high slit flowy dress is great for the weather but where was she going with the thigh-high black boots?

Did you tune in to the BET Awards? Who would you say were the best, and worst dressed stars of the night?

Really Gabrielle? I’m disappointed. People need to put out all stops for the BET Awards, just because its not the Met Gala don’t mean you can come wearing winter, OTK boots and a baseball cap.

    • Agreed! I feel like too many people aren’t respecting the BET awards the way they would others. You still have to dress up!!!
