Best and Worst Dressed at the 2016 Billboard Music Awards
The 2016 Billboard Awards was last night and I’d say the red carpet was much like the show itself – tame and forgettable with only a few stand out moments. Keep reading to see which stars were standouts and which should have put more thought into their outfits.
Keke Palmer’s House of Harlot look is… interesting. I definitely commend her for taking a risk both in wearing this latex get up and incorporating three different styles into her hair – shaved, bun and bang but I’m still not sure if the dress itself is a hit or a miss. I will say where she messed up is coming out with unpedicured feet. There’s no reason she couldn’t remove that polish from her big toe and moisturize her feet. Come on girl!
Shawn Mendes looks good in this Balenciaga tuxedo! I’m not a huge fan of the sneakers on the red carpet trend younger men have been clinging to so I’m happy to see the 17 year-old knows how to put on a suit! I hope he stays around for a while and eventually starts having more fun with fashion on red carpets.
Kesha’s purple suit seems like a tribute to the late Prince and I’m still not sure how I feel about it. There’s a lot going on, but not too much and the cut seems to work well for her.
I feel like since 2007 we’ve been giving Britney Spears a pass to be mediocre and clap any time she does well enough. This all black Reem Acra look is no exception. She’s definitely giving us 2003 Britney but I feel like she’s capable of better. As a matter of fact I KNOW she’s capable of better – as evidenced by her press room outfit. I get it, she wanted to shock us here and I do love the boots, but she should have picked this blue dress:
Steven Tyler showed up in John Varvatos looking like the aging rock star that he is and I’m here for it! This is how you maintain a signature style you developed in your 20s without looking like a completely whacked out senior citizen. Oh, and can we talk about that hair? Usually he just let’s it fly freely but it looks like someone had a roller set before the show…
Priyanka Chopra’s dress is odd. The blue suits her well, and I even like the concealed slit but the construction of this dress is odd. It’s not fitted for her body and looks like a high school student’s first attempt at a Project Runway design. Particularly the black neck strap – what is with that?
Wiz Khalifa is one of few celebs that can make me be okay with sneakers on the red carpet, especially when he pairs them with his “cool pants”.
Once again I think Meghan Trainor is trying to hide her body and she doesn’t need to do so! If you can be confident enough to sing about “All That Bass” don’t hide it on the red carpet! I would have liked this if they’d kept the high neck and sleeves but made it a mini or if this had been a halter top with a train like Priyanka Chopra’s dress but this is WAY too much fabric! I do love the shoes, however they probably weren’t the best option for this dress.
Mila Kunis is giving a different definition to the term “Bad Mom” in Zuhair Murad. Adding a high bun makes her look like a ballerina – I can’t help but think about her in Black Swan – so I do wish she chose to let her hair down but it’s still cute and gives her an “adorable” vibe rather than a serious one.
Demi Lovato be trying… God bless her… I think her style issue is that she wants to be more edgy than she actually IS. I like the lingerie top and perhaps she could have pulled it off with pants of a different cut but this look is not it. Can someone explain the tweed jacket? I think it has GOT TO GO!
Lindsey Vonn is cute but her Michael Costello dress looks a size too small; as though she’s gained weight and refuses to update her closet accordingly. This look would have been fine in the next size up.
Whenever I see Laverne Cox I feel like I’m not trying hard enough. She is flawless on EVERY red carpet she steps onto andlthe 2016 Billboard Music Awards was no exception. HER Michael Costello gown fits like a glove!
Zendaya did not come to play with you hoes, she came to slay – and that indeed she did in her custom Calvin Klein! She does nude so well – close enough to her skin tone to look nude while far enough to make it clear that she’s wearing clothes. Wearing a nude hue is already sexy enough, especially with an exposed midriff and barely there straps so I’m glad that she went with a long, flowy bottom.
