Fiesta’s Birthday Haul 2014
As a kid, birthdays mean being showered with presents but as an adult, you can count on the amount of gifts to dwindle. This year, to make up for all the birthday gifts I’m NOT getting I decided to gift myself. I took advantage of all the freebies and discounts I was offered from retailers simply for celebrating another year on earth 😉 . Though I’ve still got one left to go (Sports Authority doesn’t expire ’til March so I’ll wait for a sale…) I did manage to snag sweet deals from Sephora, Express, DSW, Victoria’s Secret, CVS and Bloomingdales. Best part? Between those six stores I still spent less than $150!
Want to know what I got? Check out my conquests:
Sephora – Beauty Insiders Birthday Gift
Sephora offers all their Beauty Insiders an annual birthday gift – no purchase necessary. This year they’re handing out a mini lipstick and mascara set by Make Up For Ever, but since I have VIB Rouge status my set also came with an eyeliner. I’ll probably keep these together and use them for travel.
Express – $40 in Express Next Rewards
My biggest gift came from Express – $40 in Next Rewards and no minimum purchase required! Since Express was running a 40% off sale I snagged this $79.90 Pleated Keyhole Fit and Flare Dress in Bright Tamale for $47.94 and after applying my coupon I only paid $7.94 out of pocket! I’m excited to have another weekend friendly dress in my wardrobe that can easily take me from day to night.
CVS – $3 off a beauty purchase
Just for turning a year older CVS gave me $3 to spend on a beauty purchase so I picked up a Maybelline brow pencil and a L’oreal Nail Polish in “Pink Me Up”. After combining my birthday bucks with a “$3 off $15 purchase” coupon, “$2 off a $10 beauty purchase” coupon and an additional $5 off, my $16 total came down to $2.81! I’ll be using the brow kit to touch up my brows between appointments and as for the nail polish, well, you can always use a pretty pink in the spring/summer!
Victoria’s Secret – $10 off a purchase
I could’ve used my “$10 off any purchase” Angel Rewards to get a $50 bra for $40 but instead I opted for a $12.50 headband from their VSX Sports collection. With $10 off I only paid $2.72 after taxes. Now when I’m running I won’t have to worry about the sweat ruining my roots!
DSW – $5 off any purchase (online or in-store)
I’ve often let offers from DSW go to waste but since it was my birthday I decided to check out what DSW had to offer. I found these Steve Madden black pumps on the clearance rack for $49.99 with the blue sticker which meant take an extra 30% off. That brought my new find down to $30 and with my $5 birthday gift I only paid $25 – not too bad!! My last pair of black work pumps have started to wear so I’m happy I could replace them without spending an arm and a leg!
Bloomingdales – 10% off any purchase (online)
This offer from Bloomingdales was only good online, so I perused their site for something affordable I might like. I found this $148 Michael Kors wallet on sale for $103.60 and with my 10% off ended up paying $93.60. This single purchase took my Birthday haul total from $38.46 to $132 – but I’m kind of okay with that since I need a new wallet. Bonus – not only does my wallet hold my cash, several cards and change but I can also slip my iPhone in for convenience!
So even though my initial goal was to only spend a few dollars per item I think I made out pretty well with a pair of shoes, nail polish, a brow pencil, mascara, lipstick, a headband, eyeliner, a wallet and a dress for $138 especially considering the wallet alone originally cost more than that. What do you think of my purchases? What would you have spent your birthday rewards on?
