10 Best (and Worst)Dressed at the 2015 Primetime Emmy Awards
FOX aired the 67th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards last night and the red carpet was a mix between safe and stunning – for the most part. It seems pink or yellow dresses were the top trend and bobs or low ponytails were the beauty trends de nuit but which stars nailed their looks and which better pray for another opportunity to redeem themselves? Check out my thoughts below:
I’m so glad Lady Gaga has decided to abandon the outlandish outfits. Rocking the “normal” look worked for Nicki Minaj and it’s nice to see that Gaga has come around as well. Gaga looks great in this Brandon Maxwell gown but I would have liked to see her do a little bit more with her face -maybe a dramatic cat eye or a red lip.
I sincerely hope Modern Family isn’t the end of the road for Sarah Hyland because she’s one of the best dressed stars in the business. Sarah nails the red carpet time and time again and this year is no exception.
Teyonnah Parris seems like she’s trying to have her Lupita Nyong’o moment and I’m here for it. The polka dots are fun and I LOOOVE that she steered away from the popular “natural styles” in favor of a traditional red carpet look that didn’t call for her manipulating her natural hair.
Multi-textured gowns can be hard to pull off but Gina Rodriguez NAILED IT in the Lorena Sarbu dress! Her red clutch is a fun pop of color that doesn’t clash and understated jewelry with sleek low ponytail allows the texture of the dress to take center.
Taraji P. Henson came to win, and if the Emmy’s wouldn’t give her the award for Best Lead Actress, at least she knows she won the red carpet! Bobs were big last night and even though most other starlets went for a tousled texture Taraji’s sleek version is the best. With a thing, see-through skirt she’s serving Morticia Adams – in a good way – and her chain link straps add a nice touch of edge.
Pink was a popular color at Emmy night but not everyone knew how to pull it off. Jessica Pare‘s Monse dress looks like it needs to be tailored and what is with that top know on her chest? This might have worked better as a jumpsuit – sans top knot of course – or if she’d just gotten the dress tailored to fit her body. And dropped that knot.
When will the funny girls learn that your joke writing skill can’t strip you of the need to show up and show out on the red carpet? Amy Schumer‘s Zac Posen dress is nice, but that’s just it – it’s nice. Amy is forgettable and a little bit sloppy. She looks like this is the first time she’s ever had to dress up – for anything – and had no clue what to do so she headed to David’s Bridal. What’s worse – her hair looks like failed attempt at a wavy style. I get that Amy’s schtick is that she doesn’t have the conventional Hollywood body but she’s not so big that finding a nice dress would be hard.
I’m tired of stylists/designers doing big girls dirty like this. Retta deserves better! This looks like an awkward Easter Sunday dress – possibly the first thing they found that fit her and decided to stick with it? To make matter worse, it looks like she couldn’t even be bothered with jewelry.
Naomi Grossman looks like an oddly-colored cow. This is an awkward pattern on her body – she should have tried harder to find a different dress. I will give her pros for the hair and earrings – both are cute even though they have nothing to do with the dress.
How ironic that a retired model who now hosts a reality competition in search of the best fashion designer would be worst dressed at an awards show. Heidi Klum Versace piece looks like a figure skater’s outfit gone wrong. Who told her all those different textures, lengths and asymmetrical accents were a good idea? Denise Huxtable could have created a better look.
