What to wear to an evening wedding
Finding the perfect outfit to wear to a wedding can be a lot of work. You have to factor in time of day, weather and just how formal the couple would like for the occasion. No matter how many weddings you attend in your lifetime, you’re sure to be invited to at least one evening affair that requires semi-formal attire. Here’s a fail-proof outfit idea from the last wedding I attended.
For this look, my obsession with award show red carpets led me to channel Rihanna’s look from the 2013 Grammys. For the occasion, Rihanna rocked an A-line Azzedine Alaia dress with a matching red lip and nails.
I know, Rihanna’s red on red look wasn’t necessarily groundbreaking. Everyone from Sophia Loren to Lupita Nyong’o has added a fierce red lip to match their dress but Rih managed to make her A-line look just as sexy as any fitted dress that I had to try the look for myself.
I scored this Express dress that reminded me of Rih Rih’s own. My version had a tie knot on the left side so instead of leaving my hair down like the Grammy winner I went for a low bun swept to the right for balance.
I felt like a bright red dress, with lipstick and nails was too much, so I opted for black sandals for a little contrast. Since the theme of my look was to stick to simple colors, I went with a black clutch as well.
I didn’t want anything to distract from my bold lip, but I still love playing up my eyes, especially at night. A classic smoky eye worked great for night without taking away from the lip.
It’s not every day that I get to be decked out in jewelry so I took full advantage of this opportunity. With my hair up and shoulders bare, this was a great time to rock my newest pair of dangly earrings, as well as a few rings I picked up this month.
