Fiesta’s Finds: Shea Moisture Spot Correcting Moisturizer

Controlling acne-prone skin is problematic enough but the dark spots that stay for months when a bump disappears? TORTURE!! My luxury moisturizer was the only thing keeping my hyperpigmentation at bay, but when I ran out at the start of frugal February I had to reach into my stockpile for something already on hand. This was the perfect opportunity to try out the Shea Moisture Spot Correcting Moisturizer I received from the Ain’t I Latina launch party!

Not ALL the dark spots are gone but it’s a big improvement!!

After cleansing I put a small dot on my forehead and each cheek then spread it around my face and neck – trust me that’s all you need. In single digit weather the three dots kept my face from drying out but as the weather has gotten warmer I use a little less to avoid a huge greaseball on my face.

I stuck with my super expensive luxury moisturizer so long because it helped get rid of my dark spots, and the few times I tried a different product, acne returned WITH A VENGEANCE! After three months with the Spot Correcting Moisturizer, I’ve officially stopped seeing any acne (this is unusual. Usually I have at least one bump at least once a month) and dark spots have faded to the point I’m comfortable being out or photographed sans makeup! It took about two months to get to this stage but as for skin brightening I noticed those effects immediately after the first use!

After three months there's still almost half left

After three months there’s still almost half a jar left!

Full disclosure – I started using a Clarisonic for a deeper clean three months before I added this moisturizer to my routine, so it’s hard to tell if the changes are from the moisturizer alone or the long-term results of the two working together. Considering I see better results, and pay $11.80 more per ounce for the luxury brand, I think I’ll be sticking to Shea Moisture’s Spot Correcting Moisturizer from now on. It also doesn’t hurt that it’s available at Target, meaning I can always count on coupons and deals for even more savings!  😉
