FOX’s ‘The Real’ kicks off July 15 – will you watch?
With American Idol, one of FOX’s biggest shows experiencing a significant drop in ratings as of late, the station has no choice but to conceive new and improved programming. Thus, here comes the latest roundtable talk show – The Real.
The Real is led by five female panelists – Tamar Braxton (WETv’s The Braxtons), Comedienne Loni Love, Jeannie Mai (Style What Not to Wear), Adrienne Bailon (Disney’s Cheetah Girls) and Tamera Mowry-Housley (Sister, Sister; Style’s Tia and Tamera) who unapologetically say what women are actually thinking. Their unique perspectives are brought to life through their candid conversations about topics ranging from their own personal lives to the news of the day to beauty, fashion and relationships.
Sounds an awful lot like The View or The Talk right? So what’s FOX’s spin to make this different from the competition? Each of the five women are admittedly a “work in progress” whose fresh viewpoints and youthful energy will turn the traditional talk show on its head according to Telepictures.
While The View features a more seasoned panel with Academy Award winning Comedienne Whoopi Goldberg (age 60) and Emmy winner Barbara Walters (age 83), The Real‘s panelists range in age from 29 (Bailon) to just 41 (Love). Their age range, coupled with accomplishments that include late 90s sitcoms, reality TV shows and more recent comedy tours, makes this roundtable appeal to a much younger crowd. Based on the clip below we can already tell they’ll be tackling topics that older generations never had to deal with.
The Real begins its four week test run on Monday July 15 at noon in NYC, 11am in DC and Philadelphia, and 1pm in LA, Houston, Tampa and Phoenix. Will you be watching?
