Golden Globes 2016: Top Red Carpet Trends
This year’s Golden Globes trends ranged from mustard to matronly, caped looks to understated white and even combinations of more than one. Which starlets nailed the trends and which need to make better life decisions? Check out the best and worst dressed stars from the 2016 Golden Globes below:
There was too much going on in Regina King’s look. She’s giving us gold sequins, statement shoes and what must have been a last minute attempt to add drama in the version of a thin cape. Her hair and earrings look good, she probably would have been fine if she’d stopped with just the dress.
Saoirse Ronan is simple but sweet in an Yves Saint Laurent Couture by Hedi Slimane gown. She’s kind of giving me Shakesperean bride vibes.
Taraji P. Henson came to win in this white Stella McCartney dress and cape! The Best Actress in a TV Series, Drama winner nailed it by keeping her white looks understated, something her Empire character would NEVER do.
Lily James in Marchesa is almost like the naked dress without actually being naked. How she manages to cover up her goodies in this sheer fabric I don’t know, but I like!
I always say there’s a select few of us who can wear white like no other and Laverne Cox proves she’s part of the crowd in this Elizabeth Kennedy stunner. Once again she’s added accents with Lorraine Schwartz jewelry and nailed it!
Even though she’s one of the oldest actresses in attendance Jane Fonda’s Yves Saint Laurent by Hedi Slimane dress, perfectly fuses trendy and age appropriate without bordering on matronly. Perhaps she could give a few tips to the younger stars?
I always thought Eva Longoria could do no wrong until I saw this look. The Telenovela star was serving Mexican matron realness in her Georges Hobelka gown. White was right but that floral detail at the hip was BEYOND unnecessary. The twin keyholes at her neck would have been just fine had it not been for the floral trim also around her neck. How she couldn’t find ANYTHING better is beyond me.
Viola Davis in Marchesa is off. She’s done better, and I wish she would have given more thought to the color of this dress, and it’s cut. Perhaps a silver dress with exposed arms would have served her well?
Maybe it was part of her point about not being able to find a decent dress once you hit a size 6, but Bryce Dallas Howard surely should have tried harder. Her Jenny Packham dress makes it look like she’s trying to hide something – flabby arms, a post baby belly, leg scars or all of the above?
Uzo Aduba looks like a proud Nigerian mom who doesn’t get out much but found a forgiving dress and affordable wig for her daughter’s sweet sixteen.
I didn’t realize you could channel Mother of the Bride under 30 but still look nice. Corinne Foxx – aka Miss Golden Globes 2016 – managed to make this look a bit sexy with a nudish hue and deep V neck. It’s a nice mix between, “I’m out with my dad” and “I want to look hot”. She could potentially be a guest at the Shakesperean wedding Soairse Ronan is hosting but I’ll take it!
Possibly the most overlooked red carpet appearance, Lola Kirke is killing it in Monique L’hullier, for a first-timer that is. Her pearl accented sandals are different and red accessories are ideal – but why didn’t she paint her nails to match her feet? If I could change only one thing I’d make her put more effort into her hair – old Hollywood waves or a chignon would have made her a Best Dressed contender.
America Ferrara isn’t quite rocking mustard, but this bright yellow Jenny Packham dress looks okay with her complexion. She clearly got the memo that red lips are the way to go when wearing yellow!
Always topping the best dressed list of whatever award show she attends, Jennifer Lopez is #glamourgoals in Giambattista Valli!
I’m picking J.Lo, Taraji P. Henson and Laverne Cox as my best dressed, who were your favorites? Let me know in the comments section.
