I love shopping end of summer sales, but the problem is you can only wear those 75% off pieces for a short window of time before it starts to get cold! That’s why I started getting smarter about my end of season purchases, and being sure to buy what I can wear for at least a few more weeks.
This weekend was chilly, but the sun came out so I put together the perfect grey tee and pink skirt look for the Simply Stylist NY Conference. Still not ready to let go of your late summer finds? Check out my tips for wearing your end of summer sale clothes well into the fall.

Layer like your outfit depends on it
Because in fall it does. Temperatures can drop 15 degrees in a few days – or even a few hours – and you need to be prepared. Stocking up on discounted short sleeved tees is fine as long as you have a jacket to throw on top.

Mix summer hues with fall-friendly colors
Here’s where those third grade art lessons really come into play. If your new pieces come in summer-friendly hues, make sure you have pieces in complementary darker colors. My soft pink screams warm weather but the grey/black tee makes the look fall appropriate. Bonus hint: Pantone’s 2015 color off the year Marsala plays VERY well with summer faves like pink and seafoam!

Invest in neutrals
You can’t mix and match without colors that work with everything right? This pink skirt might not work if I didn’t have silver shoes to give it life. Pops of color are always cute but be sure your wardrobe has plenty of neutrals that help you transition from season to season.

Tee ~ Express (I’d rock this) | Skirt ~ H&M (this one’s great too!) | Shoes ~ Aldo (try this style)
