Baz Luhrmann’s adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby hits theaters May 10

Possibly the only thing better than Baz Luhrmann’s adaptation of The Great Gatsby on the big screen next month, is the film’s soundtrack. Gatsby is set in a fictional Long Island town in the 1920s – the birth of the Jazz Age – and its Jay-Z produced soundtrack takes full advantage of the era in each track.

The album features an upbeat track titled “Bang Bang” by Will.I.Am. as well as “A Little Party Never Killed Nobody (All We Got)” a separate dance track from bandmate Fergie. Though both tracks dabble in jazz inspired themes, neither of the Black Eyed Peas members is able to really let go of their modern catchy-dance tune style. Hear Fergie’s full length song below:

Countering the upbeat nature of Fergie’s single with Q-Tip and GoonRock, Lana Del Ray lends her calm voice while Florence Welch of Florence and the Machine shows off her wailing skills over an otherwise soothing melody. With the assistance of  the Bryan Ferry Orchestra, who have their own track on the album, British songstress Emile Sande gives us a more sultry adaptation of Beyonce’s “Crazy in Love” tune.

We know Jay-Z wasn’t going to produce an album, let another singer cover his wife’s song about him, but not rap himself or feature Mrs. Carter! 2013’s official power couple kicks off the soundtrack with “100$ Bill” an original song from Jay-Z, followed by Beyonce and Andre 3000”s rendition of “Back to Black”.  Also included on the soundtrack are Jack White and Coco O of Quadron whose singles both sound promising, the xx, Gotye, Nero, and Nia.

Interscope Records released a six minute teaser via YouTube featuring 30 seconds snippets of each song from the soundtrack, though noticeable missing are Jay and Bey’s contributions. Of course, since those two are doing everything big this year, and on their own time, don’t be surprised if we get a teaser telling us when to tune in for their individual song releases. Not sure if you should download the entire soundtrack or just a few singles? Check out the teaser on your own below:

The Great Gatsby soundtrack arrives May 7, while the film premieres in theaters nationwide Friday May 10.
