Naked on the Run Palette Review

Are you familiar with Urban Decay’s naked collection? I love, love, LOOOVE my Naked 3! I can’t get enough of how the rose gold shades make my skin pop, the fact that I can literally use EVERY shade in the package and how transportable the sleek packaging and complimentary dual-ended brush is. When I had the chance to get my hands on the new Naked on the Run by Urban Decay early I jumped to be the first to give it a test run!
Naked on the Run comes with all the basics you need for a nude look – just add foundation. You get five eyeshadows:  Dive, Fix , Resist , Dare, and  Stun, one all over eyeshadow (5050), a vibrant pink blush with light shimmer and a medium bronze matte bronzer. To complete your look they include a full size perversion Mascara, Naked Ultra Nourishing Gloss in “Sesso” and 24/7 Glide On Eye Pencil in “Stag”.

I’m usually weary of words like “nude” and “neutral” –  in the beauty world they don’t always count brown girls like me – but since I was so impressed by the Naked 3 I decided to give Naked on the Run a try. Initially I thought the palette might be too bland – the pink blush would likely be light and ashy, bronzer unnecessary,  but I’d probably love the shadows.  I couldn’t have been more wrong.

This blush/bronzer is everything I’ve been looking for my whole life! I haven’t seen a pink that shows up this well since my trip to the Make Up Forever Studio last spring.  I like it best to add just a little but it’s also great for buildable coverage if I’m feeling a little bold.

Until I picked up this palette I’d forgotten how much I like bronzer. This one doesn’t do much in terms of adding definition to my face but I like how it gives me a sun-kissed glow – especially now that it’s getting colder outside. I’ve used the bronzer on and off since I got this palette and on days that I wear it  I get so many comments that I look well rested!

Naked on the Run

I’m most disappointed in the eye shadows from this set. Naked 3 gives me multiple options to create different looks but these five shadows have me limited to one or two different combos that look decent. I’ve found my favorite shade seems to be “Stun”, far right, and I can use that as an all over shadow, particularly when I’m adding a bold lip to my otherwise “naked” face. The other shades seem too close in color to show any contrast, so I only really see myself using “Dive” – far left –  as it’s rose gold provides a nice contrast to “Stun”. Though “5050”, bottom right,  is supposed to be an all over shadow,  I like to use it as a highlighter both on my brow and cheek bones.

I’ve never tried their Perversion Mascara and I’m still not sure how I feel. I prefer dramatic lashes and even though Perversion has a thick brush, it gives a more subtle effect. Sure, this falls in line with the “natural” look Naked is all about  but I’m personally still a big lashes kind of girl. Since I’ve been using this palette mostly for work, it’s not a huge problem since work looks should be understated right?

The Glide on Eye Pencil and Ultra Nourishing Lip Gloss are those perfect finishing touches you didn’t know you needed until you put them on.  I prefer brown eye pencils to black  since they look more natural so I’m feeling the understated look I get from Stag. Lip Gloss in Sesso is barely noticeable, but it gives the slightest rose tint and subtle shine which I love in a gloss. The best part about the gloss/pencil/mascara sections is that they’re full-size, so if you don’t like the one that comes in the package you can just pop in your favorite!

As with most of their products, Urban Decay did well with their packaging.  My only gripe is that unlike their other palettes, Naked on the Run does not come with any brushes. I surely don’t NEED another eyeshadow brush but it would make this case more travel friendly if I didn’t have to remember to bring brushes on the side.

I’ve used this palette daily for about two weeks and I’d have to say I’m happy. There are a few things I’d  change like adding a more dramatic mascara and making the bottom less heavy but I find it overall convenient. This is ideal for anyone who goes to the gym before work, looking for a streamlined way to get ready each morning, or  trying to travel light. Considering that a lipgloss or blush/bronzer combo from Urban Decay would cost $20 each, $54 for this entire palette is kind of a great deal!

If you’re interested in the Naked on the Run palette grab it now because it’s limited edition! You can find it at Sephora, Ulta or UrbanDecay.
