Oscars 2014 Red Carpet: Who Got it Right?

The 86th Annual Academy Awards brought award season to an end last night and while there were no official fashion disasters  a few looks could’ve used some tweaking. So who was best dressed and which stars need a little improvement? Check out the some of the most notable looks of then night below:

Oscars-2014-Lupita-Nyong'oSeriously – how DOES 12 Years a Slave Actress Best Supporting Actress Lupita N’yongo continue to out-do herself? No one thought it was possible to do better than her cape at the Golden Globes but she’s managed to show up and show out every award since then and last night was no exception. Lupita channeled Disney’s Cinderella in a “Nairobi blue” Prada gown and shoes accented by an Eric Leighton headband and jewels.

Oscars2014-Margot-RobbieLupita’s Vanity Fair cover mate Margot Robbie may have borrowed a style tip or two. The Wolf of Wall Street actress stunned as a brunette with a deep plum lip and retro waves. She took a huge risk wearing a black gown to the Oscars and although the sparkling details on the top half worked well with her ring and necklace the look might have been better if her gown was more form fitting.

Jennifer Lawrence may not know how to compose herself on a red carpet she sure knows how to dress for one! The Best Supporting Actress nominee rolled up in a red gown with peplum-like details by – you guessed it – Dior Couture. Her backwards necklace and voluminous updo complemented her look well!

Oscars-2014-Amy-AdamsAmy Adams has been stayed true to her American Hustle role rocking plunging necklines on every red carpet this season. Last night she changed things up with  a strapless blue gown courtesy of Gucci. Even without a plunging neckline her look was still sexy enough, but Amy’s stiff undo prevents her look from being one of the best of the night. Had she gone with waves this look would have been much better.

Oscars-2014-Cate-BlanchettThat whole ‘my dress matches my skin tone but I’m not naked’ look? Cate Blanchett nailed it! This Giorgio Armani gown is sexy, tasteful and fashionable – so much so that she didn’t have to put too much work into picking a complementary hairstyle. There are enough stones on the dress that she doesn’t need any extra jewelry but those chandelier earrings aren’t hurting!

When you’re up for an award, performing and recently separated you need to look better than good you should look fantastic! Idina Menzel‘s hunter green Vera Wang dress fits well but is forgettable – not even the diamond necklace can help her standout. As for her hair? She looks like a 13 year-old at someone else’s bat mitzvah.  An undo and a little more attention to her makeup would’ve elevated this look.

Oscars-2014-Sandra BullockSandra Bullock has been looking great all award season, and the Oscars was no exception! The Gravity star looked amazing in a sweetheart cut blue Alexander McQueen gown with matching nails! She made the right decision by forgoing a necklace in favor of sideswept curls and diamond earrings with a matching bracelet that complement, not clash with, her look.

Emma Watson is the picture of beauty from her Vera Wang  gown to her red lip – and then there’s her hair. Did she spend so much time searching for the right red that she couldn’t get a better do? A comb would have done her wonders.
