Oscars 2017: Best and Worst Dressed
There were quite a few trends on last night’s Oscars red carpet including boys in blue, old Hollywood glam and and emphasis on hair styling. Which stars got it right and which should have a long talk with their stylists? Check out my thoughts below:
I always appreciate when a man steps outside of the traditional black tux for his red carpet appearance, but Terrence Howard took a step in the wrong direction. He looks like a lusty Grandpa who likens himself to Hugh Hefner and doesn’t take off his house robe for NOBODY. Using a robe as inspiration was a nice idea in theory, but if he wanted to pull this off he needed a bit more tailoring.
Emma Roberts is serving old Hollywood glam in vintage Armani Prive and this is a GREAT look for her! She was there to promote the “sustainable style” movement and if this is what it’s about I’m on board. Everything from her waves to classic red lip and drop earrings are a great complement to this classic gown!
What was Scarlett Johansson thinking? This gown makes her look bloated, and I don’t know if we are supposed to see the lining underneath but I don’t like the way it looks. It seems she may have been trying to contrast the femininity of this gown with the edgy hair but it wasn’t a great mashup.
Riz Ahmed is effortlessly fine! I like the tailored dark blue suit and the bowtie is a nice touch!
Halle Berry looks decent in her Atelier Versace gown and Forevermark diamonds, but she ruined her look with that WIG! Its flattened in awkward areas, making it look like she put it on then fell asleep and didn’t properly get herself together before hitting the red carpet.
After her Grammys red carpet mishap, Taraji P. Henson came to redeem herself in Alberta Ferretti! Like Emma Roberts, she channeled old Hollywood glamour and while her gown compliments her body well the real star of this look is that necklace and decolletage combination!
Leslie Mann looks like a bridesmaid in the Southern wedding of a woman that hates her guts. The color is too bright, there’s too much volume and what is with the awkwardly placed tie at her chest? It doesn’t help that the dress could stand a steamer and her hair styling looks a bit lazy.
I’ve discussed Janelle Monae’s movie star style before, and this Elie Saab gown is right on brand with what she’s been delivering this award season. There’s an art to mixing a classic combo with embellished details and no one does it quite like Janelle can. Janelle is easily best dressed of the night!
