Primetime Emmys 2014 Hits and Misses
The 66th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards aired last night on NBC and thankfully the fashion was far better than what we saw at the previous night’s VMAs. Red and white were the colors of the night, but who looked their best and who should’ve tried harder? Keep reading for my picks for best and worst dressed at the 2014 Emmy’s:
When will Christina Hendricks learn? She is consistently wearing dresses with way too much fabric! I love that this Marchesa gown has a strap to help support her breasts but Christina would have been better off in a dress with less ruching.
Julianne Hough, did you care about this award show at all? It looks like Julianne styled her hair on Saturday and is holding out on redoing anything to it until payday. Was she purposely going for a flyaway look or does she just not realize she could use a comb? Either way it doesn’t work for me. As for the DSquared2 gown she’s wearing it’s way too plain. There’s an awkwardly placed half bow in the front that looks like she’s trying to hide a baby bump. The hemline is too long, hence all the wrinkles at the bottom, and could’ve been improved with a quick trip to a good tailor. At least Julianne got her accessories right – her shoes, bag and necklace look great!
Gwen Stefani channeled Donatella herself in this Swarovski crystal covered Versace look but if I were Donatella I wouldn’t view that as a compliment. The top is too relaxed and looks more like a big tee with a maxi skirt than an outfit worthy of the Primetime Emmys. Her straight sleek hair and middle part are cute, but does anyone else notice there’s something off about her face? You can do better Gwen. We know so. We’ve seen so.
Taryn Manning came to the Primetime Emmys looking like an Emmy award. If you’re going to wear a gold dress perhaps you should go easy on the tanning. The shape and design of this gown would be nice in a different shade, even silver if she wanted to stick to metallics, but coupled with stiff hair and her complexion this is not a good look for the Orange is the New Black star.
Between Lena Dunham debuting her platinum blonde bob a few weeks ago and her Met Gala appearance I had high hopes the Girls creator was investing in fashion but this Giambattista Valli number shows she still has a long way to go. Lena’s hair cut looks amazing and her makeup – especially the eyes – is flawless but this outfit does absolutely nothing for her! The top is both shapeless and wrinkled and there really are no words to describe what’s going on at the bottom. Once again, she’s at the Emmys in a look only Zoe Saldana could make happen. I would’ve liked this ombre effect for Lena on a fitted gown with much less texture.
As much as I adored all the red and white looks last night kudos to Mad Men’s Teyonah Parris for experimenting with color! Teyonah’s Christian Siriano dress is vibrant enough that it makes a statement without excessive jewelry and her earrings and bun combo keep the look elegant.
Now, this is how you wear white! Anna Chlumsky‘s white Zac Posen dress is very simple, neat and hugs her body in all the right ways. Normally a gown so understated would have called for a pop of color, intricate hairstyle or bold jewelry but in Anna’s case less really is more!
Sarah Hyland stepped out in a crop top and full skirt by Christian Siriano and looked amazing! The light colors make the 23 year old Modern Family star look age appropriate while her high bun gives an otherwise playful look a dash of elegance.
Funnygirl Sarah Silverman is just as good at picking her outfits as she is at making us laugh. Sarah’s deep green Marni dress works well with her fair skin and dark hair. She’s got the right amount of cleavage exposed and I must say she looks great!
No surprise here – Sofia Vergara is once again the best dressed of the night! The Modern Family star was on trend in a white Roberto Cavalli mermaid gown and Lorraine Schwartz jewelry. Her CoverGirl lipstick in 507 was a fierce
