Red & Rustic: Repurposing Evening Gowns
I’ve been on a wedding spree for the past year and between plane tickets and gifts, I can’t afford to invest in a new dress each time I’m invited to a formal occasion. Evening gowns are expensive and not wearing them at least twice would be a waste of money! So how do you repurpose an old evening gown for the ‘gram? Here’s what I did:
Remember that wedding in Dallas last fall? I went for a simple, classic look – red lips and nails, black sandals and an updo. Fancy dresses don’t leave much room for repurposing, but I decided to simply switch up the theme.
This time I went for a rustic look, trading my classic black pumps for tan lace-up booties. I still wanted open-toed shoes – it’s not like we have a lot of days left to wear them – but since it’s getting a little colder I thought these caged booties were a better option than strappy sandals.
My dress has a statement tie-neck so I prefer hair that doesn’t fight with that detail. Last fall I swept my straightened hair into a simple side chignon but this year I pinned up my natural curls a far from my neck. This way, my hair makes it’s own statement without clashing!
I also decided to skip the smoky eye. Instead I opted for rose gold hues on my lids and cheeks. The pinkish-golden colors work much better with the rustic aesthetic I was going for. Red lips and nails were an easy decision last year but this time I opted for a neutral lip with a reddish tint to avoid clashing.
So yes, you can wear the same evening gown twice, thrice or as many times as you’d like to – just be sure to change your accessories and switch up your beauty look. Don’t let Instagram tell you otherwise!!!
