SAG Awards 2017 Best Dressed
Last night’s SAG Awards red carpet had so many hits and so many misses! Two of the top trends of the night were the naked dress and youthful stripes so who got it right and who could use a bit more guidance? Check out my thoughts below!
Brie Larson looks flawless in Jason Wu and that’s really all there is to say. Somehow the asymmetry at the top of her dress works out and I don’t even mind that she chose black Jimmy Choo shoes.
I like where Taryn Manning was going with the deep merlot dress to contrast her light pink hair but it’s clear she never quite got there. There’s too much fabric, she should have opted for a more form fitting ensemble. The OITNB star probably thought dark makeup would complement her dark gown, but it actually washes her out, making her look more like a cracked out Harley Quinn than a Hollywood actress.
Salma Hayek’s dress is way too young for her. I would expect this of a child actress, but Millie Bobby Brown, Quvenzhane Wallis and Aubrey Anders- Emmons have proved they are mature enough to make better fashion decisions.
Michelle Dockery was youthful and on trend in this colorful striped
Naomie Harris, What in the Gordon Gartrell knockoff is this? I’m pro jumpsuits, but this Lanvin version missed the mark on Aja Naomi King. The stripes aren’t flattering and the jumpsuit itself is too tight in a lot of random places.
Evan Rachel Wood has redeemed herself after the last disaster. The blue velvet Altuzarra pantsuit is form fitting and flattering and the contrasting red lip is a nice touch!
Emily Blunt picked a cute dress, just not one that suits her well. This Roberto Cavalli gown may have been better on someone with a different shape but it does nothing to flatter her slender figure. She would have benefited from more volume.
Rashida Jones could have easily been a best dressed contender had this dress not swallowed her up. almost had it. Everything about the dress looks great except for the fit. The color compliments her well, but it’s too loose at the waist and makes her look a bit frumpy.
Is Nicole Kidman’s stylist mad at her? That’s the only reasonable explanation for her recent appearances. This is the second time this month she’s tried to be avant garde but these peacocks on her shoulder aren’t working out.
Janelle Monae has been switching things up since becoming an actress and I love the new risks she’s taking! It’s easy to get bored with a black and white silhouette so this award season Janelle has been adding plenty of sparkle and 3D elements to her looks. I think she she may have gone a bit overboard with the floral details on this Chanel look but I do love that she’s traded her signature red lip for purple!
Sofia Vergara is another starlet with a signature look who is starting to experiment! This Zuhair Murad cocktail dress is a more youthful cut than the mermaid silhouette we’re accustomed to from Sofia and it works well, especially accompanied by those Lorraine Schwartz earrings. The only change I would make is to perhaps have the darker color on top and lighter color on bottom to balance out her naturally top-heavy figure.
Kaley Cuoco really thought she was doing something in this 3D Marchesa dress and it’s a no from me. She didn’t need any of the flower petals popping off but the biggest offense is at her neckline.
Taraji P. Henson is easily my pick for best dressed in this Reem Acra naked gown! Once again she’s paid attentio to every detail adding delicate jewelry and muted nails as well as a simple hairdo. The bow details at her waist and necks are small details that make sure this look is more than just sexy. She may not have been nominated for an individual award but she is still the winner of the night!
